I was given the opportunity to create visual identities for Tobacco Road’s ten craft beers. These designs are intended to be promoted on their social media and have the potential to become labels and physical trading cards.
Goal for Project
The Goal was to create designs that could create awareness of the brews at the sports cafe. The team at Tobacco Road Brewing expressed their desire for unique identities that had a historical yet modern touch.
DESIGN DIRECTION
I was inspired by trade cards that were in cigarette packaging. I took the idea of a trading card and applied that to my designs. My goal was to add an element of history and/or an informational element to each card. Each design has an element that I painted using watercolor.
SOCIAL IMAGES
PROCESS
For each design, I start by researching the name of the beer and any associations it has. I gather images, colors, and wording that give me inspiration. I then begin sketching motifs and collecting assets such as textures to use in the designs. I paint one element of each design using watercolor. By scanning it in and giving it a duotone layer, it ads a vintage and unique illustrative touch. After many iterations and changes, the design is finished.
